It’s Mulberry silk.

Of course, that’s a generalization. Nothing is suitable for everybody. If you’re vegan, or against sericulture, then Mulberry silk is definitely not for you, so I will include at least one or two alternative options on this list.

However, most of the top-rated pillowcases are made with Mulberry silk. It’s the softest, smoothest, highest quality silk on the market and lends itself perfectly to pillowcases.

Secondly, mommes. What are mommes and why are they important?

Mommes (mm) are the units used to measure the weight of silk. The higher the momme, the better quality the silk.

Most silk pillowcases are between 19 and 25 momme -19 is great quality, 25 is totally luxurious. The highest momme available for pillowcases is 30 momme. Top-quality stuff.

Threadcount is another way to measure the quality of silk, although its weight is the most important factor. Threadcount usually goes up as the weight goes up – so the higher the momme, the higher the thread count. As with cotton, the higher the thread count, the better the quality.

There are a couple of other things to consider but they are down to personal choice.

One other thing to keep in mind when you order is sizing. Pillowcase sizing seems to be all over the place and what’s standard size with one company is Queen size with another. Your best bet is to measure your pillow and compare your measurements to their size charts before placing your order.
